Chefs Stephan Kuehlwetter, Jan Stechemesser, Luís Correia, Hugo Rodrigues dos Santos, José Domingos, Fernando Fonseca, Fabien Martinez, António Bastos and Chef Brüno started this initiative. They will each present individually and in the restaurant of their hotels, a menu that they have devised.
The event is being coordinated by Bertilio Gomes, the chef responsible for gastronomic events within the Allgarve programme.
Each participating restaurant has developed a special menu produced by the chefs, which will cost €30 per person for dinners between 7.30pm and 10.30pm, excluding drinks. For each dinner served, one euro will revert to an Algarve-based charity.
Algarve Chefs’ Week will be inaugurated with a promotional event on 14 May at 7pm, in the new wing of Faro Airport, where 10 participating chefs will interact with passengers, carrying out demonstrations and offering tastings. The airport will be transformed with a party atmosphere, each chef having his own ‘check-in desk’ to prepare and serve dishes.
The hotels taking part in this pioneering event include; the Sheraton Pine Cliffs, Longevity Wellness Resort, Hilton Vilamoura, The Lake Spa Resort, Grande Real Sta. Eulália, Crowne Plaza Vilamoura, Vila Monte, Tivoli Marina Vilamoura and Tivoli Victoria & The Residences at Victoria. A further four hotels have also already confirmed their support for next year’s event.
Algarve Chefs’ Week is also being supported by the regional tourist board (ERTA), Allgarve, ANA Aeroportos and Essential Magazine.
In a statement sent to The Portugal News, Mário Candeias, Director of the Hotel Tivoli Victoria & The Residences at Victoria said: “Algarve Chefs’ Week is an event about Algarve gastronomy revisited and reinterpreted with the signature, hosting and production of our executive chefs, who greatly contribute to the development and internationalisation of the Algarve’s gastronomy.”
